Cardano Founder on Blockchain for U.S.Elections

Charles Hoskinson, the founder of Cardano, has discussed the potential for blockchain technology to enhance election integrity. The conversation began on X, where Presidential Candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. (RFK) raised concerns about recent electoral irregularities in Puerto Rico.

RFK emphasized the importance of having a paper voting system as a backup to electronic systems, which helped mitigate issues during the Puerto Rican elections. He suggested a similar approach for the United States to ensure a reliable electoral process.

In response, Hoskinson proposed a hybrid system combining blockchain and paper ballots. He stated that using blockchain alongside paper would create a dual system where the analog and digital components can audit each other.

Blockchain systems, such as those implemented by Ethereum, Cardano, and Solana, are designed to resist manipulation and are inherently transparent, allowing anyone to verify stored information. Despite limited real-world use, blockchain-based voting systems have shown promising results.

Furthermore, prominent figures, including former President Donald Trump and current President Joe Biden, have acknowledged the growing influence of digital currencies. Trump has positioned himself as a cryptocurrency proponent, advocating for Bitcoin mining. Biden has also shown interest in accepting cryptocurrency donations for his campaign.

Hoskinson also publicly endorsed RFK, who recently made headlines by purchasing GameStop shares. Nonetheless, the potential for blockchain to contribute to election integrity is gaining attention, alongside the political implications of embracing digital currencies.
