The transport sector is crucial for the reduction of CO2 emissions, and recognises the VW Board of management, chief Diess. And calls on the industry to insist on the Status Quo. Also, a higher CO2-price, the group arm calls.

The VW group calls for a clear commitment of the automotive industry to the more stringent climate targets in the European Union.

“It is better we make the change now, as a development of chase,” said chief Executive Herbert Diess to the service “daily mirror Background transport & Smart Mobility”. “We stand by the EU fleet targets and the Green Deal”.

The transport sector is crucial for the reduction of CO2 emissions. “We can’t maintain the Status Quo,” said VW’s Chairman of the Board. Many industry associations defended the Status, because they represented interests. “As Managers, we need to examine, however, what happens in the environment in the next 20 or 30 years.”

According to a report of the “mirror” to some of the manufacturers and suppliers at an Executive Board meeting of the German Association of the automotive industry (VDA) this week on a Position. It is apparent that the groups accept the new requirements, basically, writes the paper. VDA and other manufacturers did not want to comment on the report.

A fixed exit date for the internal combustion engine considers This to be unnecessary: “The stricter CO2 limits will inevitably lead to an end of the internal combustion engine.” Gasoline and Diesel would be more expensive, electric cars cheaper. “At the latest 2026 E-car is the better concept – ecologically and economically,” said Diess.

Diess pleaded again for the abolition of the diesel privilege in the case of the Vehicle tax and a higher CO2 price of around 100 Euro. He admitted that the VW group will not create the CO2 limits for 2020 probably. “It will be very close,” he said. “We have our sales targets for electric vehicles achieved so far in the extent that we had made.”
