The cable network of the telephone and internet provider Vodafone experienced an hour-long disruption in parts of Germany on Monday evening. The reason for this was a software problem on a server that controls Internet traffic, the company said. Traffic was not as smooth as usual, a spokesman said.
Customers in North Rhine-Westphalia, Hesse and Baden-Württemberg were therefore restricted in accessing websites, streaming films and playing online games. It was not initially known how many customers were affected by the disruption. Many people complained via Twitter about internet disruptions and outages.
Technicians installed new software on the faulted server and were able to fix the fault around 10 p.m. Traffic was back to normal, it said late in the evening.
