Tropical storm Cristobal is on the coast of the US

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — tropical storm Cristobal continued Sunday their progress toward the u.s. coast of the Gulf of Mexico, after causing a tornado in Florida and bringing heavy rains to Mexico and Central america, where it caused flooding and mudslides.

After weakening into a category of a tropical depression as it passed over land on the mexican coast, Christopher returned Friday to the south of the Gulf from the Yucatan Peninsula and was regained tropical storm strength. The experts hoped that landfall in the united States Sunday night, but there were forecasts that it would become a hurricane.

The fronts of rain associated with the storm stretched on Sunday morning by the north coast of the Gulf of Mexico, and it was hoped that the conditions worsen, said the National Hurricane Center, based in Miami.

The sustained winds of Christopher remained in 85 kilometers (50 miles) per hour, while the storm is moving north at 19 kilometers (12 miles) per hour, with its center some 280 kilometres (175 miles) south-southwest of the mouth of the Mississippi River.

The National Hurricane Center said it was expected that the storm was gaining strength slowly to take earth on Sunday night on the u.s. coast.

However, the storm of advance was present on Saturday night, causing a tornado that touched down near the center of Orlando, said the National Weather Service. The tornado passed near the place where a group of people protesting in the Lake Eola at approximately 7:30 in the afternoon.

“Yes, it is related to the tropical storm that is located very far away from us in the west,” said Scott Kelly, a meteorologist at the National Weather Service in Melbourne, Florida. “But the tropical storm gave a shear strength of low level, and that has allowed for the formation of tornadoes in central Florida”.

The threat of tornadoes would continue throughout the night, he added.
