Tui CEO Friedrich Joussen wants to offer holiday trips to the Mediterranean again as soon as possible.
“We have prepared a health check for all holiday destinations and will only offer holidays where it is safe. In the first place is certainly Mallorca. The hotels there have made a trial run, can start immediately and welcome guests,” he told Bild am Sonntag. Greece, Cyprus, Croatia, Bulgaria, Austria and Denmark are also well prepared for summer tourism.
However: “First of all, Germany must open its borders,” said Joussen. He does not think the general and worldwide travel warning until 14 June is correct. Instead, an individual assessment should be made for each country or region.
Joussen already sees an increase in bookings for 2021. “The Germans are and will remain world travel champions. They prefer to postpone the purchase of a new car rather than their annual leave.”
On the plane, Joussen thinks wearing a face mask is the right thing to do. “There will be no long queues, but temperature measurements where the airports offer it.”
There will also be checks on Tui’s cruise ships. “We are ready from July, but as with flights, we need the approval of the authorities. The captains develop new routes in the North Sea and Baltic Sea. There will be more sea days, many love the real rest on the water. Probably at the beginning a maximum of 1000 guests travel on a ship.” Corona test equipment will be on board and health staff at the on-board hospital will be increased.
