Yangon, 11 nov (EFE).- The party led by the nobel Peace prize, Aung San Suu Kyi, said Wednesday that it has achieved an absolute majority, according to their own data and while continuing the counting officer, in the elections held on Sunday in Burma.
The National League for Democracy (NLD) announced on social networks that has been secured to at least 353 seats in the bicameral Legislative of the 476 in dispute during the elections, which will allow them to govern alone.
In the meantime, the Election Committee has announced up to the time formally the results of less than 100 seats, while it continues the slow counting of the votes.
The body confirmed the day before that Suu Kyi won in the district of Kawmhu, a town located 50 kilometers south of Yangon, where he also went in the elections of 2015.
The leader, whose international image has dropped drastically for their defence of the military against the accusation of genocide against the rohinyás before the International Court of Justice (ICJ), won 83,83 % of the votes cast in their constituency.
Despite the fact that the NLD party obtaining the absolute majority, as in the elections of 2015, will meet with the political limitations imposed by the powerful burmese Army, which ruled the country with an iron fist for nearly half a century.
The military reserve 166 seats or 25% of the Parliament, under the Constitution drafted by themselves, which in practice gives a right of veto to modify the Magna Carta, which also grants them the influential ministries of Interior, Border and Defense.
Due to the armed conflicts in various regions of the country, the elections were cancelled in 51 districts, in its great majority inhabited by ethnic minorities, which leaves vacancies 22 seats in the Legislative.
Most of these constituencies are in the state of Arakan (in the west), the scene from two years ago the bitter war between the Armed Forces and guerrilla etnonacionalista of the Army of Arakan and unique territory where a regional party, the National Party of Arakan, has obtained more votes that the NLD.
