The DITP returns to the American Film Market with eight leading Thai companies. Revenue is projected at over 13m USD.

Bangkok, Thailand, 25th Oct 2022,  The Department of International Trade Promotion (DITP), Ministry of Commerce will attend the American Film Market 2022 or AFM in Santa Monica – the largest trade event for the film industry in the USA.

The DITP will support eight leading representatives of the Thai film industry through a matchmaking program identifying potential customers and business partners.

The event will take place from 1st to 6th November 2022, and will be held for the first time in three years, following the COVID pandemic.

In spite of the challenges to global film production during the pandemic, international demand for content remains strong, and Thai companies will take their latest titles to AFM. It is estimated that revenue from sales, licenses and service contracts will exceed US$13m.

Mr. Phusit Ratanakul Sereroengrit, the Director-General of the Department of International Trade Promotion (DITP), Ministry of Commerce announced the Thai representation at AFM as part of the ongoing commitment to the Creative Economy. AFM will bring opportunities to strengthen the international profile of the Thai film industry and to build global relationships.

This commitment to the Creative Economy is the policy of Mr. Jurin Laksanawisit, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Commerce and is consistent with the important role of the digital content industry within the economy.

“Each year, the DITP supports the digital content industry by determining the key markets for promotion and expansion, so that Thailand may remain attractive and competitive as a regional hub of digital content. Thailand also benefits from its ‘Soft Power’, showcasing its unique cultural identity.”

In October 2022, the DITP led a delegation to the Asian Contents and Film Market in Busan, South Korea. This generated revenue of over US$10m, exceeding expectations.

The American Film Market is an important trade event targeting the North American market. Each year, more than 8,500 delegates from more than 80 countries attend AFM,

It offers networking opportunities as well as industry screenings and seminars.

The Thai companies representing Thailand are:

Benetone Films, Film Frame Productions, GDH 559, Hollywood (Thailand), Kantana Sound Studio, M Pictures, Right Beyond, and Sahamongkolfilm International.

They will bring more than 50 new titles to AFM including ‘Haunted Dormitory’, ‘Home for Rent’, ‘5th Round’, ‘Faces of Anne’, ‘Immortal Species’, and ‘Khun Pan 3’.
