Memecoin project Normie, based on Coinbase’s blockchain Base, has fired an intern after posting an offensive video on its official X account.
The Normie team stated, “After careful consideration and internal reflection, we have removed our last video. The intern who posted it has been fired. We sincerely apologize to anyone who was offended by the content. We are committed to ensuring that this does not happen again.”
The video, released on June 10, depicted a blue-skinned cartoon chef dancing with exaggerated features, causing backlash within the crypto community.
One user questioned the internal oversight, suggesting responsibility lay with the team supervising the intern.
how is this the interns fault? did he make and post the whole video himself? did your team not approve it?
fire whoever should’ve been helping the intern and allowed that to happen

Normie clarified that the video’s intended message was about resilience and personal change and apologized for any misunderstanding.
Last month, Normie experienced a security breach when hackers exploited a smart contract, stealing 225 Ether, equivalent to $881,686. This breach led to a huge drop in the token’s market capitalization, decreasing by $41.7 million within three hours.
Following the breach, Normie accepted an offer from the hacker to return 90% of the stolen NORMIE tokens. The agreement required Normie to use the returned funds and $2.3 million from its development wallet to launch a new token to reimburse NORMIE holders. By June 7, Normie reported the recovery of 192 ETH and the completion of its new token launch at a different address.
Normie was established in March 2024. According to the developers behind the blockchain fraud detection software Quick Intel, around 72,000 individuals holding NORMIE were impacted by a vulnerability in the smart contract initially detected in the same month.
