More Confidence For The African Region

DOUALA — In light of recent developments on the African continent and changes in Russia’s foreign policy, Moscow has started to pay attention to military-technical cooperation between Russia and African countries. According to the new version of the Russian Foreign Policy Concept signed by Russian President Vladimir Putin, relations with African countries have received a new impetus. Food and energy security, expansion of trade and investment, personnel training, and promotion of intercultural dialogue have become important areas of focus.

However, one of the key elements of the new strategy is assistance in conflict resolution and military-technical cooperation, which allow African countries to strengthen their defense capabilities and sovereignty. The main impetus for increased cooperation has been effectively countering terrorist threats on the continent.

“In light of the current events, the importance of the agreements reached by the heads of Africa and Russia are a guarantee of peaceful development of one of the most complex regions of the geopolitical map of the world,” shares Clarisse Wydorven, a representative of one of the leading African media.

Overcoming the challenges faced by Libya, Sudan, Somalia, Mali, Niger, Burkina Faso, and the Central African Republic will require a comprehensive strengthening of security based on the legal norms of the State. Without this, it will not be possible to attract the investment needed to stimulate economic growth.

Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu in his speeches emphasizes the importance of countering terrorist threats as a foundation for cooperation between Russia and African countries. The head of the Russian Defense Ministry noted in his remarks that “Russia seeks to establish equal and mutually beneficial relations with the countries of the continent, the solid foundation of which was laid back in Soviet times.

Russia has signed military-technical agreements with more than 20 African countries and concluded mutually beneficial contracts on the continent in mining and nuclear energy. Service members from Algeria, Congo, Egypt, Nigeria, Sudan, Sudan, Zimbabwe, Zimbabwe, Mali, and the Central African Republic participated in this year’s Army Games.

“By contributing to the security and sustainable development of African states, Russia seeks to build a just and multipolar world in the interest of all countries,” emphasizes Clarisse Wydorven.
