Mask obligation in retail now applies nationwide

Starting Wednesday, people in Berlin will have to wear mouth-nose protection while shopping to curb the transmission of the coronavirus. The last federal state has thus introduced these measures.

All other Länder had already decided on a mask requirement for public transport and retail. In Berlin, too, masks are already to be worn in the ÖNVP.

A nose-mouth protection can prevent carriers from infecting other people with the coronavirus. The more people wear masks, the greater the protective effect. Such protection is not to be confused with medical masks, with which the wearer can also protect himself from infection.

In Berlin, mouth-nose protection is not only a simple surgical mask and self-sewn or purchased models made of fabric or fleece. Even covering the face with a cloth or a scarf is enough to meet the mask requirement.
