Learn How One Company is Working To Maintain The Integrity of Juneteenth

San Antonio, TX, 3rd May 2021, ZEXPRWIRE, Juneteenth (also known as Freedom Day, Jubilee Day, Liberation Day, and Emancipation Day) is the oldest known celebration honoring the end of slavery in the United States.

On June 19, 1865 Union General, Gordon Granger led thousands of federal troops to Galveston, Texas to announce that the Civil War had ended. Before this, over two hundred thousand enslaved Africans were unaware that their freedom had been secured.

This holiday’s celebrations have traditionally focused on education, Black cultural awareness as well as political causes. In 2020 with demonstrations and uprisings taking place all over the world protesting racial discrimination sparked by the murders of Auhmad Arbery, Breonna Taylor and George Floyd, last year’s Juneteenth turned into a huge teaching moment for many Americans.

As a result companies like Twitter, Square, Spotify, Lyft, Nike, and others, announced that Juneteenth would be an annual company holiday.

“With the attention being given, we want to spread awareness and understanding of the holiday so that it does not become commercialized and disconnected from the root of its origin.

Juneteenth should remain steeped in the emancipation and freedom of a people,” says Logic Allah, co-founder of Melaneyes Media.

The San Antonio based independent film company is hosting Understanding Juneteenth a free online presentation that aims to educate viewers about the history and impact of Emancipation Day celebrations throughout the years.
