The immense water consumption of the new Tesla factory last time and again in the criticism. But now the water Board has issued a permit.

For the controversial construction of the Tesla factory, near Berlin, a further switch has been made.

The Wasserverband Strausberg-Erkner approved the development application for the work. The decision had become possible because Tesla had lowered the water required in the application for a permit and the authorities additional withdrawal amounts approved had been informed of the Association. Earlier, RBB had reported.

Critics worry, among other negative consequences for nature and groundwater by the construction of the Giga-Factory, and also warned before the immense water consumption. In June, the water Association is no positive prognosis for the approval given, it is apparent from documents available to the dpa. In July, the head of the Association, warned internally against little drinking water for a further Expansion. The state government had stated that the problems can be solved. Tesla reduced, in the meantime, the forecasted water consumption in the peak of 3.3 million to around 1.4 million cubic meters per year.

This Wednesday critics meet in a public hearing at the state office for the environment, the environmental permit is responsible. Against the factory, there are 406 formal objections at the time of the appointment in Erkner, a debate should be. Tesla wants to take one of the last hurdles for the final approval.

What time is the green light for the project, is open. Tesla builds so far on provisional powers for individual stages of construction. In Grünheide, near Berlin, to be built by next summer to the first 500,000 electric cars per year with approximately 12,000 employees. Tesla boss Elon Musk is planning the production of batteries.
