Dormagen: Officers shoot man and find body

Police shot dead a man during a police operation in Dormagen. Officers were called to a house in the Straberg district about 4pm on Saturday, according to the police report. “Due to indications of a possible act of violence in the family area,” they entered the building.

There, the police met a suspicious man. In the course of the operation, the firearms were used. The man was so badly injured that attempts at resuscitation were unsuccessful. The police and the public prosecutor’s office in Düsseldorf did not say in the evening why exactly they were fired.

Officers also found another body in the building, according to reports. According to the Neuss-Grevenbroicher Zeitung, the slain man shot his father. He then injured his mother.

The police have set up a murder commission under the leadership of the Düsseldorf Public Prosecutor’s Office. There was no further information, citing the ongoing investigation. The police officers involved were cared for by a psychosocial support service.
