31. October opens with nine-year delay of the new capital airport BER. The way was marked by countless failures and breakdowns – and quite expensive.
Many have not thought possible, but now it is imminent the opening of the “glitches” airport Berlin Brandenburg “Willy Brandt” (BER). Due to the about nine years of delayed opening of the BER, the previous capital city airport Berlin-Tegel was some time longer than planned.

According to cost overview of flughafen-berlin-kosten.de the estimated cost for the construction will be in the end, more than three times as high as scheduled at the beginning of the project. The Statista graph shows that the responsible persons at 2006, with around two billion Euro and an opening on the 30. October 2011 expected. The airport will be remembered as one of the most expensive large-scale projects in the history of the Federal Republic of Germany, and is currently topped only by “Stuttgart 21” – the estimated total cost for the reconstruction of the Stuttgart main station amount to approximately € 8.2 billion (as of 2019).
